Most reputable personal trainers will tell you that to make weight loss fast you will need to build up lean muscle tissue. The reason why this is necessary is that you will burn more calories at rest because lean muscle tissue raise your body's metabolism. A higher metabolism equals faster weight loss!
Assuming you go to the gym and work out properly and with sufficient intensity, then right after your workout you should have a post-workout shake or another form of post-workout meal. If you have to have simple sugars such as fruits, chocolate milk, or other simple sugars (i.e. simple carbohydrates) then you might as well eat them at the time when your body is most ready to use them. Ideally, however, your post-workout shake will have protein and some digestible carbohydrates like ground oat bran. A meal-replacement powder (MRP) drink could suffice as well.

If you don't have a post-workout drink available, it's okay! Simply go to the grocery store and get some carbohydrates which you can tolerate and have some protein. Again, this does not have to be expensive or fancy. It just has to be consumed as quickly as possible after the conclusion of your workout. An hour or so later have a healthy meal like chicken, brown rice, and broccoli.
This post-workout shake will help your blood sugar levels stabilize and prevent you from having cravings a few hours after your workout. Combined with proper exercise and a structured eating plan, an intelligently-prepared post-workout drink will help you build lean muscle and help you get leaner. Getting leaner with a slight calorie deprivation will lead to fast weight loss.
